What recommendation is better for me? - weisskatze - 08-11-2017 05:09 PM

I will apply to MSBA, so I consider two people for recommendation.

Candidate (A)
- A Senior Manager in Billing and Settlement Department for App Store
- He had been my immediate superior for 5years 6months in Billing and Settlement Department
- He very well knows me, so I expect that he can write detailed contents.

Candidate (B)
- A Senior Executive in Big data Department
- He has been my boss for 1year 6months, but not immediate superior.
- He does not know me enough, so he might write general contents.

Both A and B are favorable to me.
I do not know which is more valuable?
The person who works with me directly for a long time? or a senior executive?

A professor's recommendation will also be great in addition to one of the guys above "who knows you more".

Thank you very much~!

You're right. I already contacted my professor. : )
And I will try to tell a senior manager who knows me more.

Thank you, EE!!

Most universities do ask for 3 recommendations, so you can go with your professor and both the managers.

You might want to have a look at this.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE TAKING A LOR

Hello MSmaverick,

Fortunately(?), all schools that I wish require only 2 recommendations and my professor will write one.

I'm considering who is better for another recommendation.
Do you agree with other seniors' opinion?
Is a senior manager who had worked with me over 5 years better?

Regards,
weisskatze

The designation does not matter. what matters more is the content the manager writes about you. Is it relevant, praiseworthy but not over the top etc. Go with the manager for 5 Yrs (Only avoid him if you do not have good relations with him. In that case it is not worth the risk.)
