I would like to grow in the field of NLP, looking for univs which can provide good exposure to NLP and Data Science along with RA/TA if possible.

Extremely interested in TAMU, Univ of Minnesota, and UMass.
PS - I am skeptical about my GRE score which is 317. Can my gpa offset this or shall I retake it?

Hi @[wadhwasahil]

Congrats on your scores. You have a wonderful profile Very Happy I am assuming you are working currently, which would give you two years of work ex by the time you start MS.

I am not sure why you have a German(entry 6) and Candian univ (entry 7) in your list. If you are interested in Univ of Minnesota, and UMass and can retake GRE to score in the range of 325, that would considerably increase your chances.

As per the specific evals of univs, kindly retag other CS seniors wait for their reply. If you do not receive a reply in 2-3 days, tag me and I will try to help you out.

All the best my friend Smile

I have updated the list and want to ask you my chances for admit. Considering most of the deadlines are over by 1 Dec, 2017, I think I don't have enough time. Maybe I can wait for 1 year and re-apply with a better score. What do you think?
Also please suggest some seniors which I can tag.

Thanks

If you are truly waiting for UMinn, UMass etc, then wait and rewrite the exam if possible. With your current score the odds are not in your favour. Though it is not an outright no, the chances of rejection are high. With one more year of work ex under your belt, a better score, try to cultivate a working relation with one of the profs at those univs and your chances look far better for next year.

Think about it.

I am not only concerned with these universities, maybe you can share your thought regarding USC, UCI and Utah as these are also good in NLP. Waiting for 1 year is a daunting process in my view as there isn't any certainty that I will get univs like CMU, Gatech (top 15 basically). Really in a quandry right now. People also say that college brand doesn't matter much in landing a high profile job in USA.
