Hi:

My first reaction is that our GRE is way too low for decent PhD or even MS program. Have you thought about re-take? Still few weeks left in most deadlines......

cheers,

EE

My advice in this color

Undergraduate degree: Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.DS)
Percentage- 67%
University Topper- 82%
GRE: Quant- 159 (73rd percentile)| Verbal-148 (39th percentile) - very low| AWA-3.0
TOEFL: 97 [reading 26; listening 24; speaking 22; writing 25]
Institution: Governent Dental College and Research Institute, Bangalore.

No papers published - Major factor to apply for PhD. Might be OK for MS.
I have 3 back logs - Not a huge factor. Explain well in SOP/interviews

Work experience:
Rotatory Internship in a hospital set up as a part of my curriculum for 1 YEAR.
Working as a private dental practitioner since 8 months - Again, Not a lot of experience for PhD.

Research experience:
A research project related to Public Health Dentistry which also included a survey of 200 patients in my final year
During the degree program we had Lab hours in subjects like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology and microbiology.
Sorry both do not count as research experience
No other research experince.

LORs
1 from HOD of public health dentistry dept.
1 from Dean of the college.
1 from the employer under whom i work at present.
Get one from either Dean or HOD. Another from somebody from the basic sciences or oral biology department.

Kindly let me know my chances in these universities.

Intial List: Immunology
University of Cincinnati- MS
Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis- MS
University of Alabama Birmingham- PhD
University of Florida- PhD
Rutgers University Newark- PhD

Immunology is a highly sought after degree. All your universities are ambitious for a PhD without any research experience or publications.

Oral Biology:
SUNY Stony Brook -MS
University of Washington, seattle campus. -MS
SUNY Buffalo- MS
Texas A and M University Baylor College of Dentistry- MS
You might have a fair chance for MS in these universities. But none are safe. UWash may even be slightly ambitious.

Please help me with the college selection by seggregating the universities into safe, moderate and ambitious categories considering my profile. It would be a great help for me.

A note of Advice - why is it that you want to pursue MS PhD in pre clinical sciences without knowing anything about working in a research lab? We are talking serious commitment here. Is it just as a stepping stone to pursue DDS or for a career? Honestly, there is no career here in Oral biology. Immunology is extremely competitive but has good job prospects in Industry.

PM me for any other help you need. Good Luck.
