Hi ,
I have got admit in Professional Master of Engineering (Electrical and Computer Engineering) program at University of Maryland College Park for Fall 2012 semester.

I have few queries regarding whether I should pursue this program or not.
Note:
I got Full time F1 status and this degree has 30 credits requirement (same as MS degree in UMCP).

I will be able to work for 20 hrs/week after 1 year.

1) What is the value of this program (Master of Engineering) as compared to Master of Science in USA.
2) I have 24 months of duration in I-20, then even if complete the program within 18 months, shall I get enough time to find H1B employer within 6 months.

I have no doubt about the Quality of Education and reputation of the university.

Please do help me, this is urgent and I am perplexed about taking the right decision in time.

Thanks.

I dont have a lot of info about the program itself but the only big difference between ME and MS program is thesis, most MS programs require thesis and most ME programs dont. Which means MS program is more research oriented so if you are planning to go for a PhD in the future or into research you will require MS degree but if you target is a job, ME will do just fine.
For your 2nd question, I am pretty sure you are also eligible for the Optional Practical Training (OPT) where you can work in the US for 12 months after your graduation for an 'e-verified' employee and under OPT-Extension for another 17 months under an 'e-verified' employee falling under STEM category. This gives you 29 months after graduation to apply for H1B unless there is some rule which says ME grads are ineligible for this (which I doubt).
