1) What are the most common roles after Graduation? I am looking for Big Data Developer , Technology Analyst , Data Analyst Roles

Quote: Software dev is most common. yes all above mentioned roles are available as well. It depends on what all courses you pick and work on it.

2) Do we get a choice to choose the concentration easily? I am looking for Business Intelligence and Analytics Concentration .Will the Data Architecture and Engineering Concentration be similar to it? Basically are there courses available which will focus on Data Mining, Big Data and Analytics?
Quote: Go through the recent courses available. (I'm unaware of any changes to it from 2014). There are courses like Big data dev, Database dev, Data warehouse & BI, Advanced Data integration to help along.

3) How is the diversity? It would be very helpful If you could provide approx. Indians : Others
Quote: Its mostly asians. 70/30 indian/chinese. 1 or 2 from other countries.

4) Are Pre requisites demanded by University?
Quote: None. If you get an admit you are good. going through java basics helps.

5) Any other pros and cons about the program?
Quote: Depends on your expectations out of course.

6) How is life inside and outside the Campus
Quote: it's good.

Lmk if you have specific question. enthu_challenger

Hi,

I have few queries related to the IS course.
1) Can we tailor our course in both technical and business aspect to maintain a balance?
2) Where can i find details of the 7 Tracks NEU Offers?
3) What is the Job Scenario there at boston? Do people get permanent jobs at the Co-op organisations?
4) Average starting salary for IS students? Specifically in BI DA concentrations, and other ranges as well.
5) Average permonth living expense in Boston.
6) TA/GA scenario and is there any fee waiver on getting either of them?
7) If you don't mind, What was the range of total cost for you?

TIA
Regards,
Mrinal

1) Yes.
2) Visit the NEU IS website for detailed information of courses.
3) Yes, Job market is very good in Boston. But do not limit yourself to Boston jobs only. Usually students prefer working at different locations to get exposure and culture. And Yes generally students stick to Coop organization for full time as well. Again it all depends on company, track record of conversions from Coop to full time, performance of candidate and company etc. That is why it is important to research and choose the company that fits your expectations.
4) $65K - $120K depending on previous work experience, location, skillset and company. $80-90K in Atlanta is equivalent to $120K in California SF or even better.
6) There is no fee waiver AFAIK. But pay is good to cover part of coursework.
7) For me it was ~$42K tuition fees, ~$800-$1K per month for 2 years. (Personal expenses included) (On campus jobs covers 70-75% of monthly expenses.)

I would still recommend going through all my posts on NEU IS thread. You would find more information for what you are looking for.

Couple of questions around the course and NEU in general :
1. Can you shed some light on the Gordon Engineering Leadership certificate?

2. Being a CS graduate and IT work ex for 5+ years(Web developer), does it affect my chances of opting for a profile like BA ?

3. Same thing again in terms of opting for courses, will it affect in anyway ?
(The thing is for my other admit, Stevens I learned from seniors that the advisor makes you drop technical courses in favour of other courses, if you have a strong enough technical background. A diff story that there the course had limited technical offerings.)

4. Not sure if you can answer this, but any idea how quick the i20 is sent across?
The link to upload the docs itself took about a week to be activated.
I checked with some people who have uploaded the docs since a month, and still haven't gotten a response.

Hey!

I am interested in pursuing Masters in Engineering Management from Northeastern University. Could you give me an idea about the GRE and TOEFL scores that are required for applying? Also my college aggregate is 55% (B.Tech Civil Engineering, 2013) with an overall grade of Higher Second Class. I also have two years of work experience. Can I aim for this University? Please reply! Thanks!

Alright I'm gonna try this thread out as well:

Hello folks!

I'm considering applying to the MFA(Master of Fine Arts) program in Information design and visualization at Northeastern and have so many questions, but here are just 2 to start off with:
1. Is this considered a STEM field?
2. What does the availability of financial aid look like?

I don't see any details on any courses other than the traditional ones, or other than the MS and PhD programs for Northeastern. I can get info from the school but we all know how Edulix is awesome at giving an insider view to any grad school.

Fair warning, I will have a ton of follow-up questions!

Thanks!

Hi guys,

I am confused between university of south Florida (BAIS) and NEU(IS))

I have been into big data engineering for last 6-7 months and would like to pursue higher studies in the same field. USF curriculum offers a lot of options for the data analytics but I couldn't get clear idea on this from NEU.

Could anyone suggest which uni has a better course for bigdata?

blaze007 - If I were you, I would make my choice based on location and University/School ranking here.

NEU - Not sure about how much the course scores on Big Data/Data Science tracks, but it is located right in the middle of a huge job market (Boston, MA). NEU is a reputed university with National Ranking - 39 and Grad Business School Ranking - 57.

USF - Located in Tampa, FL where not many employers like to visit. As far as ranking is concerned, USF lies nowhere in National University or B-School ranking published by US News.

If the comparison was between NEU and UT Dallas, then the it would have been difficult perhaps. I would suggest getting in touch with the alumni/current students of these programs and get their perspective. I remember talking to one of the NEU MSIS graduates last year. He was placed with a company in Boston and was happy with the course too.

All the best!

Please cite your sources for this point.
Again, you guys are on the wrong track, don't gauge a school based on its rankings ,its BS for courses like IS, MIS.
