I got admitted to the MS - BI&A track.
I did not pay the $500 fee as of now.
The course looks good, but the fee is too high.
Are scholarships provided for the BI&A track students? If yes, how much can we expect and for how many students are these scholarships given?
Can you also tell me the process to apply for these scholarships? Do I have to pay the $500 fee in order to apply for these scholarships?

I tried asking many people, but couldn't get a proper answer.

ManBilla, The scholarships are dependant on your GRE scores, TOEFL scores and your work experience related to the department you are applying for and also upon the budget of that department. The fellowship is only given to the top 5% of the applicant pool as determined by the department.

When you apply for Stevens, you are automatically considered for the scholarship, you do not have to apply separately for it.

The 500 USD fee is only for securing your seat not for applying for scholarships. Hope this helps

Hi vidhi1991,

I understand your concern. I just graduated from Stevens and having worked in the administrative offices on campus before, I can tell you that they are swamped with applications right now and hence there might a 2-3 business days delay in responding to your query. However, please go ahead and submit your application. They can always e-mail you back for your TOEFL scores and anyway, you will have to send your official toefl scores to them upon admission. Hope this helps!

Best,
Shilpi

Do drop a mail to the Admissions team mail id in the website. They will respond with the appropriate details. But I am guessing they are still taking applications.

Hi ShilpiTalukdar / vvsaucse ,

Got my admit couple of days back for MIS, Fall '16.
Wanted your inputs regarding the University.

Profile : GRE 305 / TOEFL 107 / 73% BE in Comps (Mumbai University)
5.3 years exp with TCS as a web developer.

Couple of concerns/questions :
- I am not seeing much activity on Edulix around Fall admits for Stevens. Just came across a whatsapp group today via Facebook, still to get in touch though
- What kind of job profiles can I expect ?
- Is my experience as a web developer going to be an hindrance when seeking jobs with other roles? (This isn't restricted to Stevens per se, asking in general terms)
- TA/GA opportunities ?
- I read Shilpi mention something about a fellowship, based on merit. Any details on the trend it was awarded earlier?
- Also, can you let me in on the approximate expenses one can expect per month in NJ ?

Appreciate the help on this.
TIA.

Regards,
Neel Indap

The truth is, most of the students do not know that this forum exists. If they did, they would ask questions based on things they could find out with a little bt of research and past trends. Anyhow, to answer your questions:

- I am not seeing much activity on Edulix around Fall admits for Stevens. Just came across a whatsapp group today via Facebook, still to get in touch though
- What kind of job profiles can I expect ?

Depends on your concentration, to begin with , I have seen people taking up programming jobs, testing, business analysts, business process analysts, data analysts and the like. So, i would say it is a good opportunity to pave your own path and take up something you really wanna study and work in later in your life.(Sounds like philosophy, but it is the truth)

- Is my experience as a web developer going to be an hindrance when seeking jobs with other roles? (This isn't restricted to Stevens per se, asking in general terms)

Nope, not at all, but yes if you would take up a job as a web developer, you will generally find more employers being interested in a guy who has worked as a web developer than a fresher.

- TA/GA opportunities ?

Hard to get, due to the huge population of students. I would advise keeping your eyes and ears open, network and distribute your resumes to all departments for consideration.

- I read Shilpi mention something about a fellowship, based on merit. Any details on the trend it was awarded earlier?

Only the top 5% of each batch are given a scholarship. I don't know much about the trend, but in Fall 2014, only 3 students I knew (including me) had received it

- Also, can you let me in on the approximate expenses one can expect per month in NJ ?

Assuming that you share a bedroom with another person (around 500 USD monthly)

Thanks ShilpiTalukdar for the info.
I have got an admit from Stevens and from UT Arlington.

Stevens fees is a concern for me. Wanted some info on the availability of part time jobs in Stevens as I wouldn't want to burden my parents with the living expenditure. Also if you could shed some light on the internships opportunities also, that would be great Smile

Are the scholarship/Financial Aid decisions given out at the same time as that of giving admit ? If no, how long does it usually take for FA decisions?

Yes, they are given at the time of acceptance. If you don't hear about the Fellowship at the time of acceptance, chances are you have not received it.
