Very simple process, really.

1) Download and fill out the DB form available on their website. You can fill it in on the computer (recommended) or write on it by hand.

2) Schedule an appointment for "Attestations" at bangalore.diplo.de . Don't schedule it under "National Visa" or "Schengen Visa". They will not let you in.

3) Take the following documents with you on the day of the appointment:

a) DB application form (filled, unstapled, but not signed). Black and white will do.
b) Copy of passport information pages. Black and white will do.
c) Passport (original)
d) Printout of appointment mail
e) Copy of university admission letter (optional)

f) Rs. 1700 in cash (amount as of June 2014). I don't know if they accept cards.

4) Go 20-30 minutes earlier than the appointment time (especially if it is a 9:20 or 10:00 appointment) because they let you in earlier.

5) When they call your appointment time, go to the person in the reception room (not the security guard), pick up the phone and talk to him. Pass your original Passport and appointment letter print out. He'll write something on the letter and give it back to you.

6) Show the letter to the security guard. He'll do a security check and let you in. Ask him which counter to go to.

7) Sit near your designated counter and wait for your name to be called.

8) When called, go in and submit all the documents. S/he'll check it once and tell you where to sign. Sign it and pass it back. Give the cash when asked.

9) S/he'll stamp it (and the copy of your passport) and staple the form and give it to you. Say thanks and get out.

Whatever happens, do not remove the staple. It will make the attestation invalid.

Take exact change and take a pen along with you while going.

And if you're coming by two-wheeler, try not to park on Residency Road, but on St. Mark's Road instead. I'll give you the directions to the Traffic Police Station for free if needed Smile .

Fall '14 applicant. Energy/Resources.

Parking in front of the Darshini is OK. But there is space for hardly 20 vehicles there.

Hi, I have questions regarding filling the new application form.
What is residence permit number under section 1. Do we need to get a residence number in Germany prior to visa? And there is a question like "do you have a health insurance in Germany". I will take one once I go to Germany but there is no space to mention this reason. What can I do here.Any idea or link? Please help....

That number is for their internal purposes. Leave it blank.

For Health Insurance, mention that you have travel health insurance for 1 months/3 months (whatever you take). It isn't crucial since they know you (probably?) can't get a European Insurance before coming to Europe.

Hi,

In the current form for blocked account with DB, there is a provision to enter a "registered address" under section 1.
Are they asking for my address in Germany or Home country? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

You will get the email only after transferring the entire amount.
As quoted from the FAQ section of this thread:

Quote:c. Do we get a notification from bank when we transfer the blocked amount? How will one know that the amount is credited in blocked account?
A. You will get the first email from DB containing the account number and other details.
A few days after transferring the blocked amount, you get another email from DB stating that they have received the funds. Note that you will not get this email if you transfer anything less than 8090 Euros. The print out of the second email is required for the Visa interview.

The process has changed this time. The form has to be sent by the consulate now, not by the applicant. Mail/look up the website of your Consulate if they are willing to send the forms. Or contact the local office of DB or Kotak Mahindra to open a blocked account.

Back and ready to roll !!
