German Visa experience – Mumbai consulate. Feb 16th 2015
University: University of Freiburg
Course: Computer Science

My visa appointment was on 11:15 AM but I went there around 10 AM. I was allowed to enter after showing appointment letter & DD.

I was "welcomed" by big fat security guard. That arrogance, that rudeness & creepy smile - what else do you want on such big occasion?Shocked But I ignored him with straight face & took a checklist to arrange the documents.

Checklist was as below:

1. Signed Application form
2. Declaration Form
3. Covering Letter.
4. Admission Letter
5. Proof of Blocked Account
6. Proof of English language proficiency
7. Degree Certificate
8. Travel Insurance
9. Copy of Passport.

I created two sets as per above order. Then pasted a photograph on each application form.

Now I was ready with two sets, passport, DD & DD forms.

" I told you to sit in first row here ...here " shouted the big man to someone else. I ignored him again. Evil or Very Mad

Meanwhile, I was called at the counter & given token number after verifying my documents. Also he asked for an extra photograph.

My token number was 6.

It was almost 10:30. But there was no sign of start. Now, there were almost 25 people waiting nervously.

"Who kept these bags like this ?" again the big man. This time, everyone ignored him so he had to arrange those bags himself. Terrific. Applause

I was not nervous though I did not bring along an affidavit letter & second year finance. That's may be because I was ready to face any decision. Even send off. ( Different story )

Around 11:15 AM, they started serving tokens. Initially only three counters were serving but after 20 minutes they opened all five.

Around 11:45 AM ( talk about time-management), my token number was called. It took me while to find out counter 5 because it was hidden at one corner.

VO Lady in her mid or late 20 ( I am not good at this Brick wall) smiled. I responded with smile.
* Where are greetings * * She was beautiful* (I am good at this) Twisted Evil

Me: Hi ( awkwardly )
VO: Drop both sets, passport , DD, DD forms here.
Me: Sure.
VO: Where are you going?
Me: Freiburg city.
VO: Which course ?
Me: Computer Science.
VO: When does the course start ?
Me: 20th April but I have to be there two weeks earlier
VO: So the course is in English ?
Me: Yes.
VO: What is your highest qualification ?
Me: B.Tech. in 2010 ( the year was unnecessary but I didn't care as long as I keep her away from second year finance)
VO: So what were you doing since then? ( As expected)
Me: Worked as Software tester in XYZ for 4 years.

*Silent... typing ...typing *
VO: Give me all original documents
Me: Just a second.
* Taking my time *
* Gave 10th,12th & 8 semester mark sheets along with a degree certificate*

Me: Do you need experience letter ?
VO: Yes. Give me two copies.
Me: Sure.
VO: So you resigned in May 2014. What were you doing after that?
Me: It was carefully taken decision to go for full time preparation for GRE ( again ..leading ) & TOEFL. I did not want to jumble between study & work. I wanted to give 100% effort. And it worked well as I scored good in both exams.
VO: But you didn't attach your GRE score? ( Expected)
Me: Just a second. Here. Two copies.
VO: Perfect.

*Silent ..typing ..typing *

VO: It's been four years since you completed B.tech. then why do you want to go for MS now?
Me: When I joined IT industry I knew this is the field I want to pursue my career in for rest of my life but soon realized I didn't have enough knowledge to leave major impact on this industry. And that's why I want go for MS & earn that knowledge and come back ( This is how I avoided an extra question) to leave impact in this field.
VO: Ok. Any backlogs ?
Me: None. I was a gold medalist. ( marketing)
VO: Great ..then you should have gone earlier ( Laughter)
Me: (Laughter) But now I have relevant experience.
VO: That is right.

VO: Any German language proficiency ?
Me: No. But enroll for A1 in Pune,
VO: Ok. Not an issue.
VO: Take this form & fill out here. Also here are your original documents.
* I started writing down answers for questionnaires *

Questionnaire had general questions like:
1. Why Germany? Where did you come to know about the course? specify website.
2. Why this course?
3. any other universities you applied ?
4. Researchers in your field? Please do not mention professors from your course.
5. % marks in 10th,12th ,bachelors and medium of teaching?
6. Gaps in education if any(more than 6 months)?
7. Modules of your course?

VO: Show me your hands.
Me: Okay.

After this, she asked for my biometric finger scans. And I returned the form.

VO: Here is your passport. I have stamped D here. As you have been very consistent with your academics, we will try to process your visa earliest. You will inform about the decision on this mail & please check spam folder too.
Me: Great. Thanks.

I was out by 12:05 PM.

Many thanks to all previous Visa Threads' owners. Please consider this as a token of appreciation.

Best Regards,
Mumba.

Nice descriptive post!! Thanks a lot for posting this. Will certainly help a lot of people seeking info about the visa process.
I have one question though - what difference could it have made to the whole process if you had a year of gap between 12th and B.Tech and a bad 12th result (10th 90, 12th 63, B.Tech 8.51...i.e. inconsistency)? I asked it because I have them Shocked

It doesn't make much difference if you give reasonable explanation about the gap or inconsistency. The key is being honest & confidence.
Look straight into eyes of VO & explain the reasons behind.
