Well, yeah, when it comes to on-campus jobs, internships, etc. it depends on your abilities, but you could rate in terms of the opportunities available, the location, etc. You could also talk to current or past students and get an idea of it statistically to an extent.

Although this method is ideally the best, its exhausting and a bit impractical. There are too many universities to start with. This can be used when you narrowed down to about 20 univs. But now the question is to how to narrow down to those 20 univs? How would I know which univ I should keep as high limit according to my profile?

This is fine-grained evaluation for choosing your destination after getting admits, which is when most souls are confused and need help. So obviously you can't use it for coming up with an initial list of universities to apply to. For that, you need to choose based on the coursework, your research interests and you can use edulix to see where your profile stands with respect to those universities.
