German Student Visa - 2017 Queries and Experiences

Hello all,

Starting this thread for the latest queries and experiences regarding German student visa, Winter 2017. Couldn't find any other thread for the same.

To start with:

1) The application form for a German National Visa seems to have been changed again this year.

http://www.india.diplo.de/contentblob/44...tional.pdf

2) The attestation process for blocked account at Consulates is modified a bit, wherein the attested forms have to be sent to Germany by the Consulate itself and not the student.

http://www.india.diplo.de/contentblob/35...to_neu.pdf

Hello Guys,

I started filling up the new Visa Application form and most of the things are clear to me ( with help from previous threads on Edulix).

I am a bit confused about the Health insurance question ( Under number 13)

"Do you have health insurance that covers the Federal Republic of Germany?"

From the previous threads I see the people have suggested to write, "No, I will take it after reaching Germany".

But in the new form, there is no provision for entering any text, just a Yes or No option.

Would it suffice to just mark No and leave it like that? Please let me know your suggestions.

It would be sufficient to write a No.

Visa Interview experience: Mumbai Consulate, 21.06.2017

I am sharing my visa interview experience in Mumbai Consulate, I had an appointment at 9 am, I reached at 7.45 (why I did this, actually I just had casual visit to consulate the day before yesterday, just wanted to check where it is, and if I can get a chance to catch up with someone, who share experience, the security told me come before 8, so you will be release till 10:30-11, if everything goes right)

so this is how it happened:-

At 8 am security asked to form a line, then they took applicants inside, one by one, after security checking, I was asked to take out all the documents from bag and keep the bag in locker. After few mins, they provided the documents checklist, everyone needs to arrange all the documents according to the order in the list (2 sets as mentioned on consulate website).

All the applicant needs to fill up 2 DD forms, the blank forms were available over there, but I would suggest download it from website and take the filled forms, do not waste time in consulate, because after arranging documents you will have to show the docs and DD form along with DD at one of their counter, where the guy check the DD and signed on the form, on the form do not write or sign at the point: "Represented By" here he will sign. Then he will give you a token number, this is number for visa interview.(mine was 7)

So around 9.15 my number was displayed. (token no 7, window no 1)

VO: Good morning!
Me: Good morning!!
VO: What type of visa you are applying?
Me: Student visa, long term
--asked me to drop the 2 sets of document in the tray--
VO: Which course you are going?
Me: -ans-
VO: Why Germany?
Me: >>> I started the ans but after completing first sentence, she cut me short and asked next question (she was very rude, very rude, speaking loudly), I got little upset Neutral
VO: How did you know about Germany? Do you know any one in Germany? Which website did you searched?
Me: answered, asked which city your friends are in, answered
VO: What is language of the course?
Me: English
VO: Do the course has any fees?
Me: No tuition fees, only semester contribution.
VO: When course starts and what is the last date of enrollment?
Me: -ans-
VO: When did you completed graduation?
Me: 2011
VO: What were you doing since then?
Me: Working in Industry.
--meanwhile asked me to drop all the originals--
VO: Which company are you working?
Me: -ans-
VO: Are you still working? Have you resigned?
Me: Yes
VO: When is the last day?
Me: -ans-
VO: Since when you are working here?
Me: -ans-
VO: Which was the previous company?
Me: -ans-
VO: Show me the proof of work experience, latest 3 months salary slips and experience letter from previous employer.
Me: shown, I actually misplaced d'oh! the May 17 s salary slip, and she shouted for this particular one, I said, I do not have it with me right now, but I can get it.

Then she handed over me the questionnaire paper, asked to answer all the questions.
(some of the questions were: Why Germany? Which uni and course? how did you know about it? which all other uni an courses did you applied? how it differs from this course you are applying? name any scientist name of your research field. marks scored in 10th, 12th, B.E)

While I was writing she said, I will have to get salary slip, till the time my application is on hold. Brick wall

She asked me to put fingers on fingerprint scanner.

Then she asked me to write an motivational letter on the back side of the questionnaire ( asked me to keep all the documents inside the folder and said do not look into any document while writing) Asked me to take a seat besides and write. once I finished, she give me a receipt of the DD submitted, and wrote an email id where I have to send the missing document (salary slip). Said it will take 8-12 weeks to process the visa, I said thank you, again blant face. Then I left.
After arriving home, I sent the salary slip on their email id.

Still I do not know why these guys in Mumbai Consulate are rude.

Guys I advice, be confident, be positive, do not afraid.
AND DO NOT BLUFF.

Thanks, I hope this will help other who are having interview in coming days !!
Good luck Very Happy
Cheers !!

Visa Interview experience| 24th July, 2017| Chennai consulate

University of Freiburg | Msc. Microsystems Engineering | Winter 2017

I had booked the slot on 11th July via the online scheduling system available in the consulate website, did not go for VFS. It was relatively easy to get the slots compared to stories I heard from Mumbai and Delhi.

I had reached Chennai on 23rd afternoon as I wanted to take photos from Dina Color lab mentioned in the website. It cost about Rs 177 for a set of photos.

My VI slot was 8:00 to 8:20 AM on the 24th. I reached around 7:20 and there were already quite a few people there. At 7:45 they called us in as per the slots. Went in and deposited my mobile in a counter near the entrance.

There was a guy who gave us a checklist according to which we had to arrange your documents. I had already arranged it with the info I gathered from Edulix.

1. Application Form
2. Declaration
3. Covering Letter
4. Admit Letter
5. Proof of Academic qualifications ( Degree, Semester Marksheets, 12th, 10th)
6. Proof of Language proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL , German certificate )
7. Proof of Finances
8. Copy of data page of Passport
9. Travel Insurance

Along with this you will have to give your DD, Original passport and three photos. Two of them he will stick on the application forms. He will check if everything is in order and then give you a token number. Mine was 4. He also gave a DAAD data collection form where you had to fill in your present qualifications, the college your are going to, amount of work experience you have etc.

Initially only one counter was operational. And each person was taking around 15 mins roughly. At 8:40 another counter opened and my number was called.

The Visa Officer (VO) was a young Indian lady. I greeted her with a Good morning and placed the documents in the slider.

VO: Which University ?
Me: University of Freiburg for an MSc. in Microsystems Engineering.
VO: What are you qualifications in Bachelors ?
Me: I have a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering.
VO: When did you graduate?
Me: 2013. From then until last month, I was working with Robert Bosch, Coimbatore.

(The VOs at Chennai are familiar with Bosch as a lot of people used to come to the Chennai consulate for Work Permits. Hence I told about work experience before they asked.)

VO: Please give me a proof of your work experience.

( I gave here my relieving letter. I had already resigned and was sitting jobless at home Razz)

VO: So have you worked in Germany before?
Me: Yes. I had gone to Stuttgart for 3 months in 2014 on a Work Permit
VO: What is the start date of your Course and language of instruction?
Me: 16th October and it's completely in English.
VO: Do you know German?
Me: Yes, I had attended a course at my office and have an A1 certificate from Goethe Institute.

(After this she didn't speak for a long time. She was chatting to someone and also typing something on the PC. Infact the VOs spend a good percentage of the interview typing away on their PC)

VO: Please place your fingers on the scanner....

(She then checked if finger prints were okay and resumed typing, leafing through the documents once in a while)

VO: What was your CGPA in Bachelors?
Me: 8.34

(She then typed a bit more and proceeded to print out a receipt for the visa fee and puts a stamp on the passport. And handed both over to me)

VO: You will get a mail from us regarding the decision of your application.
Me: When can I expect it?
VO: It will take atleast 4 weeks.
Me: Thank you. Have a nice day.

So it was a pretty straightforward experience and they did not ask me many questions as you can see. They also did not give us any questionnaire containing the questions about researchers in your field, the modules of your course etc.

The University I am going to has a tuition fee of 1500 Euros per semester and I had attached the fee notification along with the admit letter. But they did not ask for any additional proof of finances. I had carried my bank statements anyway, but they seemed to be happy with blocked account confirmation.

So that's it I guess. Now comes the hard part of waiting with patience.

A big thank you to edulix community. It's a goldmine of information right from the college application to visa application and cleared a lot of my doubts without needing to ask anyone personally.

Update: 23rd August, 2017

Got the approval mail today! Smile

There is a change in the requirement at Chennai consulate. They are now asking for a travel insurance valid for upto 6months from the date of travel.

I will update more after the stamping is done.

Hi,

I have applied for German National Visa from German Consulate, Bangalore. The consulate authorities have kept my Original Degree Certificate and passport. Is it usual procedure?
When can I expect it to be returned?

Many Thanks in advance

From what I have heard, in Bangalore consulate they do keep it. It will be returned at the time you go for stamping, which is after you get the visa approval mail. Timeline can be 4-8 weeks I guess. We can only wait.

Hi,

I have a query regarding work experience letter. I have my VI on 28th December.
I got my work experience letter from my organization on 1st August as I needed it for applying to universities. So since there is a gap of 4 months, will it be a problem?
