Accepting an offer

I received an admission to one of my choices for M.Sc. for the coming Winter Semester. The thing is I thought that most acceptances would be sent around end of May to 2nd week of June and they'd be around the same time.

What is standard practice when you get an offer early and the offers for most of the other schools are supposed to come in 3-4 weeks later atleast?

  1. Does someone simply accept an offer now and later try to get out of it when they get a better one from another university?
  2. Do they just request the current university to stall as long as possible? And then make a decision?

I am hoping someone can shed a some light on the above.

Just wait and see. No need to respond immediately.

In the meantime, please kindly update your unisearch profile with latest list of universities applied with decisions. It will really help the next gen of applicants.

That's good advice I guess. Thanks.

PS: I've updated my unisearch profile to reflect my applications.

To add to this, I have another question. After admission to the university how much time does one have to pay the fee? I believe it depends from one Uni to another. But anything in general?

You sure about that? Don't they have to get here, finish their formalities with health services etc, register for courses and then the bursar bills are generated AFTER the add/drop deadline for Fall? That should be at least September. July is way too early, no? People will not even be here at that time. I am quite certain of this, does it work differently at SDSU?

Increasing number of programs are asking incoming students to pay tuition before beginning of semester and quarter. They allow you to sign up for courses only after that. Popular courses get filled up fast and students don't want to take risks in losing out on this.

Yes, back in the day, at VT, I waited till September to pay tuition!

Cheers
