Hello,

I am an electrical engineer from Caracas, Venezuela. I want to study a Master in Germany. My grade (german system) is 2.68.
My grade is very bad because here in Venezuela it is very difficult to get an Electrical Eng degree at my university (In my promotion of graduates started 25-30 students and we were only 2 that ended graduated and the grade of the promotion was 2.66 –almost same of mine).
I had applied to the following Masters for winter 2017/2018
- TH Ingolstadt (International Automotive Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems)
- Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus (Power Engineering)
- Flensburg University of Applied Sciences (Wind Engineering )

For BTU and Flensburg I already received the email that I am not admitted. And to be honest for TH Ingolstadt I have no much hope to be admitted. I see very difficult to compete against grades better that 1.6 (german system).

I was wondering if you can help me to recommend me an university or a master that with my grade could be admitted.

In resume: Electrical Engineer looking for a Master in Power/Renewables or Automotive. /// Grade (german system) 2.68 / IELTS 6.5 /// I will apply for summer 2018.

Other info & extracurricular activities:

Production Management and Financial Engineering diplomas
I was a Formula Student member and board of directors at my university
I was a an IEEE Student branch Vice-President at my university
Basic knowledge of german (A1)

Hope you can help me and give me an advisor to apply for summer 2018.

Hi Av8cado

First, I want to welcome you onboard Edulix on behalf of our world-wide community.

We see more and more bright young people from Venezuela applying to US/Canada and European programs. I think this will benefit the institutions a lot in the short term and also Venezuela itself in the long term.

The first advice that I have for you is to diversify your major area of specialization. All the programs that you applied seem to be in auto and energy and I suspect that has you compete with many Mechanical, automobile and Electrical engineers. Perhaps, look at programs in some other EE topics like networks, circuits, wireless, electronics, VLSI/CMOS, Analogue circuits, etc.

In the meantime, please do the following:

1. Fill out your UniSearch profile. That will help others to give you a highly personalized response. The more we know about your background, the better our advices will be.

2. Wait until some of our Germany folks answer the thread. You can also tag them. The format is:

username

cheers,

EE

Hello Edulix_Editor

Thank you for the response. It is very helpful.

I am looking some time to fill the UniSearch profile while I am not at work. Then I will tag some users from Germany to advice.

Best regards

Rogue, would you be able to tag any active German mech seniors here (and of course, you're more than welcome to chip in too, if you feel like it Very Happy)?

1) Please mention as many details as possible about your academics, research and work-ex, in terms of projects worked on, technologies used, roles/responsibilities handled, papers published/presented, awards/honors obtained, etc. All those have to be put in the misc details section of your UniSearch profile if you expect any help on Edulix. Also, before requesting for profile evaluations, please go through this excellent post.

2) Please take some time out to read these three threads in their entirety. PLEASE do that before asking questions about universities from a comparison perspective, or jobs, or coursework, or H-1B visas, or "placements", irrespective of which univ/department/program/major you're applying to.

I love to read, and then I regurgitate. I write - a lot - as my posts here and on other outlets would show. I do not make apologies for what I write (and how long it is). I do not sugarcoat things either. I don't tolerate vague questions, for any reasons - ignorance arising out of an inability to locate information when the necessary tools to do so (i.e. the internet, libraries, university websites, other forums/bulletin boards, etc.) are readily available, is not any kind of an acceptable excuse.

Hola Av8cado
Bienvenido a Edulix!! Wink

Firstly, I would say that don't worry about how your grades fair in your home institution. Every country has a different grading and credit system. With your grade if you have a class rank that would certainly be helpful to mention.

I think you applied to very few universities this time, which is why your chances got reduced. So, in my opinion it would help to increase your chances if you apply to more universities next time. My suggestion would be to also take your time in the meanwhile to improve your Deutsch, so that it increases your chances of finding HiWis as a student in Germany and also later on improves your job opportunities in the German job market.

That being said, let me tag nimbus_2000 who graduated from FH Aachen with an Automotive Engineering degree and is now working in Munich. If he doesn't manage to reply on Edulix, send me a PM and I will put you in touch with him.

Alternatively, do try the Erasmus Mundus programs too if you find some program that fits with your interests.

Cheers,
Rogue

Hello Rogue,

Thank you for the response and the advise.

I am currently taking courses in the goethe institut in my home country to improve the German. But It will be only for communication purposes. In this short period of time I only could reach A1/A2 levels. But it is something.

About applying to more universities next time, I am doing it right now with the DAADs scholarships. The thing is that if I apply via UniAssist it chage me for every university that I will apply, and I have no much money bc I can not afford spent much money. In my country is very difficult to buy exchange money (USD or euros) and the economic in general is very bad (the minimum income in Venezuela is $30 USD per month). So I have to analyze my options very well.

Also, I have been thinking about working in other countries and I have sent my CV by linkedin to several companies, but the problem is find a work permit. Nobody is willing to do it.

I'm crossing my fingers with the DAADs scholarships and analyzing which universities I will apply for next year.

Thank you again for the advices.

Best regards
