Hi all,

I would have 9 years of work-experience in Indian IT industry by next year (i.e. mid 2018). Have worked in multiple international (onsite) locations too.

My work experience has been as follows (sequentially):
- B.E. Mechanical
- 2 years as coder (C, VAX VMS, COBOL)
- MBA Marketing
- 7 years in different roles (SAP TM, PMO, Pre-Sales, Bid management)

TOEFL score: 111
B.E. Mech CGPA: 3.9 (out of 4.0)
MBA CGPA: 3.9 (out of 4.0)

I am targeting Canada universities. What are my chances?

Few universities which I have shortlisted in Canada:
Simon Fraser
Alberta
McGill
Victoria

(Why studies now? This would be the first question that would come to your mind when you read that I would have 9 years of work experience by next year. The reason is that my career growth/learning has stagnated. And people who are coders are progressing much faster in the IT industry. Hence I want to re-skill myself at this point.)

I don't think your 9 years of experience will be seen in a negative light. In fact, it is a plus. You will be able to see things from a variety of angles and more rigor appropriate for someone with an experience.

Even though not all Canadian programs ask for it, I still recommend taking GRE.

I also recommend that you build a list that consists of ranked, moderate, and safe-bet programs.

Example:

Ranked
Waterloo
McGill
Toronto
UBC

Moderate
Alberta
Western Ontario

Safe-bet
Concordia
Victoria
Simon Fraser

Please kindly fill out your unisearch profile. It will help our next gen of applicants.

cheers,

EE
