TOEFL Section wise requirement

Hi Guys

I received my TOEFL score a few days back and I scored 99(Reading-25,Listening-19,Speaking-27, Writing-28). Since I meet TOEFL requirement (80 overall) of most of the moderate universities, DO I need to retake TOEFL to shoot my listening score above 20? Please help.

Thanks and Regards

Do you need to? No. Should you? Probably. That depends on you and how comfortable you are with the fact that you night not get a TA. I mean, getting one isn't guaranteed in any case, but a lower TOEFL speaking score will almost always preclude one from getting a TA, regardless of how well qualified one is for it. If getting an admission is your goal and you don't care much about getting a TA, I personally don't see the need for a TOEFL retake.

1) Please mention as many details as possible about your academics, research and work-ex, in terms of projects worked on, technologies used, roles/responsibilities handled, papers published/presented, awards/honors obtained, etc. All those have to be put in the misc details section of your UniSearch profile if you expect any help on Edulix.

2) Please take some time out to read this and this thread in their entirety. PLEASE do that before asking questions about universities from a comparison perspective, or jobs, or coursework, or H-1B visas, or "placements", irrespective of which univ/department/program/major you're applying to.

Hi

Thanks for your prompt reply! Though I haven't crossed 100 but my Speaking is 27. Considering the fact that my speaking(27) is ok and as you stated in your reply that 'a low speaking almost precludes a chance of TA', will I be eligible for the same?

Thanks and regards

Apologies. When I wrote my previous post, I misread your first one, and thought you had 19 on the speaking section. Now that I see I was mistaken and that you actually have a good speaking section score and that the 19 is in the listening section, I think you should be fine. And like I said earlier, for a TA, they look at the overall score and that of the speaking section specifically. While your speaking score is good, I don't know how much not having a 100 overall will affect your chances of getting a TA. If you wanna take that chance, don't retake, otherwise do, it's as simple as that.

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply! I am so relieved because I am reappearing for GRE( my previous score 311) again perhaps in October and I really didn't want to retake TOEFL! If I will get time in October end and I'll retake the exam then, else I'll send the present score only. Thanks a lot again.
