Thanks for having a very well-updated UniSearch profile. That helps us a lot.

I'll give you an eval here because nobody has responded yet, but I'm not an ECE guy, so please take other opinions as well:

1. University of California, Berkley - the place is "Berkeley", and drop this one, too ambi
2. University of Illinoi, Urbana Champaign - the state is "Illinois", and this is ambi, consider dropping unless you get a 325+ GRE score
3. Georgia Institute of Technology - ambi with your current GRE score
4. **University of Michigan, Ann Arbor - recommend drop
5. University of Texas, Austin - drop from the list
6. **Carnegie Melon University - ambi, recommend drop
7. Purdue University - drop
8. Cornell University - ambi, recommend drop
9. University of Southern California - mod
10. Texas A&M University, College Station - drop
11. University of California, Santa Barbara - ambi
12. University of California, San Diego - ambi, recommend drop
13. University of Pennsylvania - ambi
14. North Carolina State University - ambi
15. University of Minnesota, Twin Cities - ambi
16. University of California, Davis - ambi-mod
17. Ohio State University - mod-ambi
18. Pennsylvania State University - drop
19. Arizona State University - safe-mod
20. University of Maryland, College Park - drop

Note that my above eval is strictly based on your current GRE score. When you retake the GRE, come back here and give us your updated score, and we can eval your list then with that one in mind.

As it stands, your current list is insanely top-heavy, because your GRE score is going to put you squarely in the average (or even below-average) bracket at most of the schools on your list. You applicants need to understand this: US schools see thousands of applications from international students, especially from India/China, most of whom have very similar (and very competitive) profiles, and most Indian/Chinese applicants at these schools have 320+ GRE scores. In such a scenario, your score will not make you stand out, even if you have a good quant score. Also understand how the shortlisting is done by many (if not most) schools - the GRE score is used for the initial culling, so if your scores are less than the averages of the applicant pool for that intake, there is a likely possibility that you'll culled on that basis alone. Once you're past that hurdle, that's where most of your other materials are looked at, such as the transcripts, CV, SOP and recommendations. So, like in your case, where you have very good and relevant work-ex, if your GRE score doesn't get you past the first round of culling, the work-ex won't even matter in many cases. Therefore, it's great that you're retaking the GRE, but please do try to get a 320+ score in the very least (preferred is 325+ as I'm sure you know already).

Also, even if you do end up getting a substantially better GRE score (which is always better), you'd still need to have a good SOP especially if you're looking to get into the top schools. Read through this thread completely. A lot of stuff has been discussed over there which would help you to write and/or critique your SOP.

1) Please mention as many details as possible about your academics, research and work-ex, in terms of projects worked on, technologies used, roles/responsibilities handled, papers published/presented, awards/honors obtained, etc. All those have to be put in the misc details section of your UniSearch profile if you expect any help on Edulix. Also, before requesting for profile evaluations, please go through this excellent post.

2) Please take some time out to read this and this thread in their entirety. PLEASE do that before asking questions about universities from a comparison perspective, or jobs, or coursework, or H-1B visas, or "placements", irrespective of which univ/department/program/major you're applying to.

Thanks The_Observer for giving the detailed feedback, I do understand the importance of a good GRE score, absence of that can surely cull your chances in very first stage.
I will surely try to reach my target of 325+ , but preparing again can take some time, so i will start my SOP and LOR writing and review process as well

Do that, and at any point if you have questions, ask them in this thread. Tag me or other seniors so that we are notified about your question. I would recommend you try to retake the GRE no later than October end, so you have enough time to submit applications for schools that have deadlines in December. You can of course take a later attempt in December, if you have everything else in your application ready to go apart from the GRE score. Also, keep in mind that since most universities are closed in the last 2 weeks of December due to the winter break, you should ensure that your hard copy documents reach the school no later than the 15th of December, in order to meet a Jan 1st deadline.

Not an ECE guy but do steps as recommended by The_Observer, based on admits of fellow ECE friends and seniors , following will be rough evaluation

1. University of California, Berkeley - Drop
2. University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign - Drop
3. Georgia Institute of Technology - Drop
4. **University of Michigan, Ann Arbor - Ambitious
5. University of Texas, Austin- Drop
6. **Carnegie Melon University- Drop
7. Purdue University - Ambitious
8. Cornell University - Drop
9. University of Southern California - Ambitious, very expensive
10. Texas A&M University, College Station- Ambitiously Moderate
11. University of California, Santa Barbara - Ambitious
12. University of California, San Diego - Drop
13. University of Pennsylvania - Highly Ambitious
14. North Carolina State University Ambitious++ unless Quants =170 else {Moderately Ambitious}
15. University of Minnesota, Twin Cities - Highly Ambitious. Needs a very high GRE score( one of my senior is studying there currently had GRE of 338)
16. University of California, Davis - Drop
17. Ohio State University Ambitious
18. Pennsylvania State University - Ambitiously Moderate
19. Arizona State University Ambitiously Moderate
20. University of Maryland, College Park Drop

Bottom line is even if your percentage is high, Uni of Cal people will convert it on scale of 4 i.e. your gpa will be 3.28 which is very moderate for Uni of Cal and would eventually put your application in lower bracket which is why i suggested removing Uni of Cal too. It's fine to apply for 1-2 but make sure it doesn't exceed that limit. Also please do more research for finding great departments where current research aligns into your futuristic working area. I'm completely sure that with proper research and efforts you will get admitted into greatest department. And yes do start writing SoP and LoR because it has to go under lots of reviews to make it shine. All the best Smile

Divide % by 100 or cpga by 10 and then multiply by 4
There are many but they wont be useful just stick to basics. This formula is for your sorting of universities. Many of my friends used the same
