Hey guys, need help for university shortlisting.

GRE: 329 (168Q 161V)
TOEFL: 114 (29,29,26,30)
University: VJTI, Mumbai
CGPA: 8.85 (toppers: 9.3)

I had created a thread before but have now updated my new gre score and profile.
Please take a look and review my profile.

Looking for MS in CS and specialization as data science (or related courses like ML)

DMBS Project to automate the VJTI university admission and hostel software. Involved managing a lot of student, faculty data which I have covered in my SOP to suit my profile for DS/ML.

Final Yr project is detecting duplicate questions in Quora. Aims at automating the software to detect duplicate questions using NLP and ML. Currently in development.

Couple of minor projects, some in ML, some in web development.

2 month internship at a startup as a role of a back-end developer. Again, not related to DS/ML but have tried to encorporate in my SOP.

Unfortunately no publications or research papers.

Attended Microsoft student partner workshops
Shortlisted in Transform Maharashtra for developing a solution to a universal problem faced my people in India.
10 MUNs attended including 2 CMUNs and was the Under-Secretary General of my school MUN (JMUN).
Winner of national level spelling bee competition in 9th grade(is it worth mentioning it in my SOP).

Recommendations.
Project Guide, VJTI
Associate Professor, VJTI
Head of Examintion Department, VJTI
All 3 are strong recommendations.

Some universities I shortlisted.

1 Super Safe
SDSU/SJSU (SJSU seems to be better than SDSU)

3-4 Safe/Mod
NEU
UF
NCSU
USC
UW (MS in IM. It has a DS course plus the name of UW )

4-5 Ambitious
CMU (MCDS program since the CS one may be too ambitious)
GaTech
UCSD
UCLA
UPenn

Application costs and tuition fees are not much of an issue.
So would it be wise to apply to 6-8 ambitious schools plus the 4-5 safe/mod schools?

Is there too much of a difference between the placements of schools like UCSD vs NEU vs SJSU? Cause I have been told that university rankings do not matter that much for MS in CS.

Hey, thanks for the evaluation.
I know that everyone is saying that USC is expensive but I checked on their website and with one senior who is currently there, the tuiiton is 56k $ for 2 yrs. 1900$ per credit and a total of 27 credits for the entire course. So that amounts to 56k$ for 2 years or 28k$ per year. That isnt too expensive right? Almost all of the UCs have similar tuition cost.

Congrats on your score Very Happy

If you can get a TA/RA etc, it would be easy to go to USC. And you need to add an overhead of fees because each college drops a bunch of International student fee, online class fee etc for each subject. Add on Insurance, living costs and occasional splurges it might prove a little costlier than you thought.

All the best my friend Very Happy

MSmaverick Never knew about these various factors while calculating the fees. Is it poosible for you to tell me the average total cost (including all overhead expenses, stay , tuition etc) for two years? With and without a TA/RA?
Thanks a lot
