MS Applied Economics Fall 2018 | GRE 332 | TOEFL 113 |

Hi everyone,

I am in the process of shortlisting universities for entry in Fall 2018.
I am currently looking at Applied Economics, although I would prefer applying for a Masters in Development Economics. I am unable to find too many Development Economics graduate programs in the US, and none which are STEM designated. Any help with choosing the relevant universities would be appreciated.

My Profile:

Undergraduate CGPA: 9.11 (This is the highest GPA in the BBA program; Received the gold medal)
Undergraduate major: Finance
Undergraduate minor: Economics
Institution: Foundation for Liberal and Management Education (FLAME Class of 2014)
GRE: 332; Verbal: 164; Quant: 168; AWA: 4.5
TOEFL: 113

Intended course: MSc in Development Economics (preferably STEM)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shortlisted universities:

1. UC Santa Cruz: MSc in Applied Economics and Finance
2. California Lutheran University: MS in Quantitative Economics
3. Yeshiva University: MS in Quantitative Economics
4. Boston College: MS in Applied Economics
5. Drexel University: MS in Economics

I had also considered UC Berkeley's Masters in Development Practice, but I will not be able to apply to this school as they don't accept my transcript format which comes in the form of a 3 year BBA plus a 1 year Diploma in Liberal Arts.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Work Experience:

Aug 2014- December 2015: BNP Paribas GSO (Middle Office Investment banking operations)
December 2015- Present: JMN Investments Research (Equity Research Analyst)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kindly help rate my shortlisted universities and suggest other programs for Development Economics.

Query: Will I be able to apply for a program in Development Economics despite not having any experience in the field? I have been doing some volunteer work, but not related to economic development or research work.

Thank you,
Vaishnavi

Awesome GRE!!!!! Equally awesome GPA.

I suggest looking at the following:
Columbia (several departments and interdisciplinary programs)
U Michigan
Emory University (several departments and interdisciplinary programs)
Berkeley may have some related programs.

Moderate
VT

All the ones that you picked are too safe for you with this GRE! Please add the above 5 and few of the following.....

1. UC Santa Cruz: MSc in Applied Economics and Finance
2. California Lutheran University: MS in Quantitative Economics
3. Yeshiva University: MS in Quantitative Economics
4. Boston College: MS in Applied Economics
5. Drexel University: MS in Economics

cheers,

EE

Thank you Edulix_Editor for your help!

Will I be able to apply for Development Practice programs in schools such as Columbia and Emory even without relevant work experience? That's my main concern while considering the ambitious schools!

Thanks,
Vaish
