Hey, I want to apply to TUHH for Masters in Information and Communication Systems for Fall'09...I am not inclined to do any MBA along with it...From what I am looking at various threads of TUHH, most of them say it is better to find career opportunities with MBA along with MS...But since I want to apply only to MS, how much would it hinder if I dont do MBA along with it?

@vkn_1985

Now even if u want to apply for MBA u cannot as the deadline for MBA application is over on Feb 28th itself.So u dont need to worry on that option.

But I saw in one of the post u can apply to MBA even after 1 yr of MS. doing MBA sponcered by some company at least makes sure u r fully funded. At the same time the MBA doesn't affect ur PhD chances if u want to apply for it later or if you want to work in technical field.

ICS is a good dept as far as TUHH is concerned. And the intake for the each year is generally very small in TUHH compared to their US counterparts where they give out admits in 100s.
According to DAAD website the number of intake for the winter sem for each dept are given below:

MEMS - 11
http://www.daad.de/deutschland/hochschul...g&id=11928

ICS - 20
http://www.daad.de/deutschland/hochschul...g&id=11927

Information & Media -13
http://www.daad.de/deutschland/hochschul...g&id=11929

So its no wonder if there are no Indians in a specific dept in a specific year.

@nil_bond_007
Thank you

As far as I know in Germany there is no campus placement concept. You are all on your own.
But according to latest news there is huge demand in the field of IT in Germany.So I guess it shudnt be a prob to find a job.

P.S: Knowledge of German is directly proportional to your job prospects Wink

guess its around 35k-45k euros..

One of the good thing abt working in Germany is they have some strict labour laws about working hrs and remunerations.
Each year u are entitled to take 30 days of paid vacation apart from national holidays.(in most other countries including US its 15 days). Also ur employer need to provide u 13 months salary per year.
13 months salary working for 11 months...sounds nice na!! Smile

Also after some period of stay in Germany u will be entitled for some benefits like if u become unemployed the govt pays u salary till u get into another job..

The only drawback is, Germany has a very high social security cost. Almost 40% salary goes as tax

I second sesha

go through the link for this interesting article about German Engineering education

http://machinedesign.com/article/enginee...rmany-1107

The immigration laws are relaxed very much in the recent past. Now you can stay in Germany in a student Visa up to 1 full year and search for job after graduation unlike US where u will be kicked out if u dont find a job in 3 months.

Also after getting a job you can convert it into work permit and after 5 yrs of working in Germany u r allowed to be a permanent resident.

Germany is facing the same problem as other western countries like aging population and decrease in interest of their youth in engineering. So they desperately want engineers from other countries mainly India to work for them and settle down.Even at this time of recession they have a vacancy of about 25000 in the field of IT.

If you speak German you are the king there Smile

Remember Germany is the Europe's largest economy dependent on engineering export. The world is still crazy of German automobile and electronics.

Apart from all these the chance to learning a new language, studying in a 'truly international university' , very low fees and a opportunity to travel throughout Europe ...I believe there is no reason to think Germany is second to anyone.

@vinoth, nil_bond_007,
Yes the deadline to apply for MBA is already over...But last year for those who got admits for MS were also offered for MBA...
I wanted to check on what if we dont accept MBA offer...
It sounds clear now after some replies...
