@sarav22: Your i20 will contain source of fund information. AFAIK it will be mentioned under family funds. Your i20 and Visa funding source can be different.

Hey Guys!

If we mention just the liquid amount in the Affidavit of Support, won't it mean excluding the other non liquid assets.
But then again, we should mention the amount.

Or can we make a statement like this

Hi
I just have a query. My i20 amount is $28850.I have proof of funds for the first year and a part of the second year. But I am falling short of finance to show for the second year fully. But there are lands and houses in the name of my parents. Can I just include them for second year finances and say the VO,that for the second year Ill take loan of $30000 using the house and land as collateral?

I mentioned the liquid amount in the affidavit.
After that I added a line "Please find enclosed a summary of Funds and Assets which can be used without any restriction for funding the education of Mr. XXX at XXX"

Hey guys,

I am fall-2012 MS aspirant and was in the process of getting my finances sorted. I have savings in the Post office Bank under the MIS ( Monthly Income scheme) but it matures only in 2015. So, to show the principle amount as liquid cash ( as mentioned in post #14 ) , Am I required to provide an attestation of any kind or would the original receipt do ?

Few friends of mine who have already got admits, told me that I need to send a solvency document from the bank and an affidavit of support along with my applications.
But then I came to know that I can send the financial docs after I get the i20.

My dad n mom have around 30 lakhs in their GPF accounts.
I am planning to take a loan of around 10 lakhs ultimately.

So, below are a few doubts I have:

1. I tried getting a solvency doc from bank. I contacted couple of nationalized banks and they refused to give it. They said that only a CA can give that.
I contacted a CA and he was ready to give me one.
He said I can show him proofs of the assets we have and he can issue a solvency doc.
Is it fine to take it from a CA??

2. If I send the financial docs after I receive the i20, do I still need to send a solvency doc or will it be fine if I just send the PF statements of my parents.

3. Lastly I am thinking of writing to the univs that I am goin to apply so as to be 100% sure about the process.

Thnx

Original Receipts will do. But confirm with respective university if they accept Post office savings.
For Visa purpose you can show this as your second year expenses.

Not sure on that.IIMO it should be from a bank

Solvency doc not required. Most of the universities don't give you an i20 based on solvency docs . They require proof of Liquid funds.

3. Lastly I am thinking of writing to the univs that I am goin to apply so as to be 100% sure about the process.
Thats the best. Each university have their own specifications on financials. Go through their website. If you still have questions mail the concerned person

Thnx

Yea thanks for the info.
One more question:

Can I take the solvency certificate from a CA for getting an i20 where ever solvency certi is a requisite??

I tried taking it from the nationalized banks and they told me that they issue only if there is that much amount in the same bank account. They also added that it can only be issued by a CA.

Has anybody taken it from a CA?
