I am creating this thread to present some of the job profiles that students gets post MS in MIS/IS . There are many profiles which are too specific to a particular companies requirements such as applications developer but moreover these are roles for which most of the MIS degrees are aimed for. Certain roles listed are for people with prior relevant working experience but many analyst, consultant roles are backed by people with 0-2 years of work experience also. I think if we stress on the competencies required for these roles during our Masters degree, we can equip ourselves for getting these jobs.
Please feel free to suggest other job titles which are not mentioned below.

Application developer,Oracle:
An Oracle Application developer is responsible for handling all aspects of Oracle Applications which is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. He has to handle problems relating to all modules such as Financials, eBS, AP, AR, CE, etc. Which all modules of the ERP, he may work on differs from client to client. Along with being well versed in Oracle Applications; he also has to be skilled in technologies such as PL/SQL, SQL, SQL*Plus, TOAD, Oracle Discover, and many others.

Member of technical Staff
Responsible for RAC-DB stability, performance testing and Clusterware destructive testing on varies platforms; responsible for understanding RAC functionality, Oracle rdbms and asm new features and Oracle clusterware on varies releases and responsible for implementing, maintaining, and enhancing test infrastructure/tools and verifying testing results.
This is the golden opportunity to learn Oracle within Oracle, the challenging position provides training to lay the foundation of RAC and database stability, High Availability. Database Analyst:
Assists in planning, designing, and implementing the Common Database. Such activities involve interaction with development and end-user personnel to determine application data access requirements, transaction rates, volume analysis, and other pertinent data required to develop and maintain integrated databases. Works under general supervision, assists in analysis and design activities associated with the development and maintenance of the database. Must be competent to work independently in most phases of database management. Reports to the Manager, Data Management. Fraud Risk Analyst
In an effort protect our clients' assets and provide a safe and secured banking environment, and to minimize financial losses to the firm from systematic security risk, we are tasked with monitoring and analyzing client activities in order to detect and curtail fraud trends. The case management team primary responsibility is the identification, mitigation and incident management of potential fraudulent online banking transactions detected by a suite of detection tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Review and analyze online banking/ACH transactions prior to release/approval to determine if fraud or misrepresentation exists

MIS MANAGER

The MIS job is seen like a support function for business people and other around them. The qualities in my opinion are:
- knowleadge - a combination of the technical skills and economic (they are the persons who know what is in the system and also understand what the end users want from the reporting purpose view),
- communication - learn to listen what others need, explain what you need, talk with all part involved,
- initiative/improvement - make your life easy, make people aware that your work is important (they depend of what you do)
- "be there" - treat you colleagues like internal clients (the beneficiaries of your work) , listen the needs of you team member (trainings, problems, their motivation factors etc)
- documentation - ensure that your processes are documentated=> reduce the training on the job. new staff will have a support when you are not there.
- control=> correct reports=> people trust you and looking to you with confidence
- respect your team to receive respect
- try to be informed about the new products from your company=> you need to update your team members and also there are impacts in your work,
- be correct with your team members - once that you put a few black paint in a white one the white paint will never become white.
- organize meeting where all team members can contribute: to come with new idea, what they study, new things from the market.

CATEGORY 2: Attestation and Audit
IT Auditor
The primary functions of an IT audit are to evaluate the system's efficacy and security protocols, in particular, to evaluate the organization's ability to protect its information assets and properly dispense information to authorized parties.
Requirements at KPMG:

Main role:
Act as a member of financial audit team performing auditing in Computer Information Systems Environment
Execution of IT audit for the benefit of a client identifying performance improvements opportunities that could improve general IT controls over client’s information systems


Successful candidate’s profile:
degree in information technology or experience in IT
fluent English skills
good technical understanding of computer technologies, including, but not limited to:
operating systems
database management systems
network technologies: network equipment, TCP/IP protocol suit, Internet

Desirable:
previous Information Security/IT audit/internal audit experience
knowledge of financial audit/accounting
certifications on IS security and audit (CISA, CISPP etc.) or IT certifications (by Microsoft, CISCO etc.)


Quality Assurance engineer:

• Discussing new products to be tested with the development team and the manufacturing group.
• Testing and assessing the effectiveness, accuracy or safety of new products based on existing safety standards or performance guidelines.
• Data entry, recording of results and completion of paperwork in a timely fashion.
• Troubleshooting inaccuracies or problems in the product or item. Meeting with the production team to share results and recommendations.

Precisely Jay ... Most of the grads(freshers) gets SE , developer positions and some get consultants ones but since the breadth of oppurtunities are wider in MIS field , the transition to these roles is quicker for MIS grads.
