Are there any embedded systems or electronics related projects which have been or will be undertaken by seniors.I am interested in contributing my efforts for the same.

That' great to hear about, Ancalagon The Black, Edulix_Editor.

I was wondering if making these efforts centralized would be useful (as we discussed earlier), it will help in building up a community. I am thinking about using github for hosting projects from EduMentoring. I have been using it for past year for my own personal project management and I really like it. It is great for version control, it encourages open-source projects, its free, and it allows you to create project related wiki's and websites.

I can set up an EduMentoring organization on github, and can work on managing it, if we think that will be useful.

Ofcourse, we still need many graduate students to volunteer for this effort. I would like to believe that the advising experience will be useful when applying for academic jobs. (Edulix_Editor?)

@Pythea:

I agree that having a central online location will help in creating a community around this effort. The way we have it now, the efforts are do disjointed that the rest of the community sees nothing of thd work being done. For creating a network effect, we need that community platform.

Please go ahead and create it and customize it so that it has thd looks and feel of Edulix.

Pythea

Best regards,

Editor

I think it would be really good to host it on Git, teaches people about revision control, it's easy for everyone to stay up to date on what has been done and what needs to be done, etc.

Will you guys be posting new projects for this year? I have an idea for a possible project. This however doesn't have anything to do with Engineering. It involves a bit of Software development culture, political science and psychology. I'm not sure if this board is right for this. It mostly can't be used as a final year project but the results might be interesting enough to publish at a SE conference. Without further ado, I present the title: A case study on Open Source vs Closed Source as learning methodologies(or some iteration of that.) In essence, I want to study whether open source(for the lack of a better terminology. do excuse me.) environments foster better growth (and economic stability?) vs closed environments on society as a whole (broad generalisation. Narrowing it down is something we could do). This is an attempt to introduce a modicum of science into all those highly opinionated and generally degenerate debates that are always raging between Open Source and Closed Source advocates.

Footnote: while this may not seem like a technical idea and it isn't (psych and pol. science majors would be better served), it is still a scientific study and involves a lot of work and could possibly lead to publications at Software Engineering conferences.

What do you guys think? @[taro_curly] Ancalagon The Black

There is already a lot of work done on this topic. A good introduction is to look at the work done in open source teams by McDonald and Kientz in UWash.

Funny how engineers have a different definition of "technical" than the rest of the world.

This is not directed at you. This is a common observation.

Oh right. Will look into that. I'm not entirely sure if people have studied them as social models outside of software though but then I may be entirely wrong. Very Happy

You are absolutely right about that. "Technical" is a very relative word. I am however operating under the assumption that this board is generally populated by Engineers, not that others don't exist, but the maximal population... I'm sure you know what I mean. I'll stop. Sorry Razz

Conditionally, I am willing to do a project with you around this general space. A possible submission for CSCW '14 perhaps? The deadline would be the 1st of June, 2013.

Any upcoming projects on MEMS, nanoelectronics devices?
I work at the Indian Institute of Science and have the Fabrication and Characterization facility at my disposal.

Dear Members and Editors and other administrators,

I am relatively new to the forum. I am an EE undergrad passed out in 2006 and have been pursuing my job in the IT field for about 6 yrs now.

I am currently in a phase where I want to pursue research back on my core area of EE (Preferably Applied Sciences/Renewable Energy Sources/Robotics). I would like to know where to start from and how to proceed.

Every reply is important for me and I would like to get help from this forum. Hope to see a new reply soon.

Hi,
I am an undergraduate student in electronics and telecommunication and currently am in my final year.
I was hoping if I can get a mentor for any research in the embedded systems field.
Kindly let me know if there is any opportunity available
Thank you.

Hi everyone,

First of all, I would like to thank the innovators of Edumentoring for bringing forward such an incredible prospect. Edumentoring would surely help a lot of undergrads accomplish projects that are otherwise daunting to work on alone.

I'm a student of Mech Engg. and would like to pursue MS in Industrial Engg. in the US. Could you please give me some ideas for a project on Manufacturing (CAD/CAM; Robotics; ) which I can accomplish with your help???

Thanks. Smile
