I did not understand your problem. I would try to put it this way. A2 is necessary for your registration here. B1 is an added advantage. You can send an email to the course coordinator and ask if you can join without that. Generally, ( I am in Computational Mechanics) I was not allowed without that.

But, doing B1 is very costly here. So it should be good if you can do it in India. Though, it is for free in the Uni but the duration is two semesters. It is B1.1 and B1.2 then again, B2.1 and B2.1.
I do not know about your course here. If it contains more German subjects, it is better to have a good knowledge of the language.
For visa, you need to send an A2 certificate to the Uni which will issue another final admit letter. (Your current admit letter must be Conditional admit: for this you need to show your registration in some German language course here. Some people have done that. They register to some German language course, and come here. Once in Germany, finish off the language course and join the Uni immediately.)

I hope I have cleared your doubts. But I have not understood your problem.. Neutral

I got admitted for the computational Mechanics. I took B1 classes from Goethe institute but unfortunately failed in the B1 exam...
Is it possible for me to take the placement test for B2 at Univ. or i have to register for the B1?
I have a certificate issued from Goethe institute which states that I studied B1 there but no passing certificate...

Yes that is possible. But I suggest to have B1 certificate and then moving on.

If I am not mistaken, there are also some intensive language courses that you can take up in Germany. These are organized by certain private institutions (EBG, for example). This depends on your city as well. In Magdeburg, we have these quite regularly as long as there are enough participants. The cost is about 160 Euros here, but it may be significantly higher in the west.

Actually I would like to take the B1 exam directly w/o any crash courses, reason:-I am confident that i can pass it Smile.... also I already completed B1 classes from Goethe Institute, although I failed in the final exam.
But I scored 77 marks out of 100, the fact that they failed me in speaking part is the reason behind my failure, which is quite unpredictable and strange, i am the only one among more than 200 students, who passed in all other sections and failed in speaking partBrick wallBrick wall.
Till November Goethe institute Delhi wouldn't conduct any other exam for B1 so I can't do it here, that's why I want to sit in the placement test for B2 and register for the B1 exam directly in Essen Goethe institute.

You can give the external exam of B1 at MMB in other cities too.
For example, in Pune here, we have an external exam being conducted on 6th September. Try checking out the dates of the external exams at other MMBs too.

If you complete A2 by September you can start attending classes the moment you land in Germany.
Just to make things clear, this is what you got to
1) Register yourself for a German Course in a recognized institute preferably Goethe
2) Get a course participation letter from the institute also stating the last day of the course
3) Attend your Visa interview with this course participation letter. Though there is a risk that the interviewer might reject your application, it is worth taking the chance. I have come across a guy who got his Visa without A2 certificate.

Off edulix this semester!! Do not tag me, it is no good.

GETHU

In Gothe , I can't complete the course by this september. As the classes for A2 level are statrin this Aug 19th and goes on for 8 weeks, so it will end on Oct 20th.

So can I plan my visa by opting Gothe for my A2 level and if everything goes well can I register in Univ. for this winter sem.

I cannot surely tell that you will be able to register. Since the course ends only on Oct 20th, i feel your chances are slim getting through the VISA interview. But you can always try. If you are through VISA and clear A2 exam by Oct 20th then you are good to go. You can register till Oct 31st in the Uni for this winter Term.

Off edulix this semester!! Do not tag me, it is no good.

Err, I cannot give a concrete reply to this question. You have to do it just before the registration last date. Take easy subjects for the semester so that you can manage it.

My previous reply was to @[bishtkamal]

I would suggest to take a private tuition for A2 and appear for an exam in Goethe.

And sorry for my mess. Sab keechhad ho Gaya.

Also, Nikhil, answer to your question, whether you can come here, appear for German exam and then register to uni, well, it depends on how you do it. Usually, here, in Essen, these German language courses do not take oral exams. They offer for only written exams but their format is totally different. I was told by my seniors in Uni not to appear for Goethe exams here, which have same format worldwide because their expectations for Orval's are different. And that's natural. These are native Germans, you need to be very very fluent to answer them.
Next, there are some other private institutions for German who do not take Orval's but as I said before, test format is a little different. I went through the same problem as you people. I couldn't pass B1 in India and eventually landed up here to pay more and completing an entire course. And, it is pretty costly here.
Also, for your external exam, you can inquire in all nearby Goethe institutes in India and ask for an exam. It is absolutely possible. And plausible though!

Now, bishtkamal,
My previous reply where I tagged you was to Nikhil. Everything went messy.
i hope, Now your answers can be referred to here. I would suggest to get a Goethe certificate. If not, if you want to do it here, you need to take a little risk as the formats of the other institutes are different. Details written above.

I hope I have clarified both of you.

Hi Pavan,

Is it true that the chances of Visa rejection are more if the German certificate is not from Gothe. I had done my A1 level and learning A2 from a private university(Vivekananda Institute of Foreign Languages).
And if visa is rejected for this semister, can't I attend the visa again for the next March-2014 sem. What are the chances of getting the visa if rejected once.
