FALL 2013 (MECHANICAL/COMPUTATIONAL ENGINEERING) _PLEASE EVALUATE

Hello everyone,

I am planning to apply for MS in mechanical engineering. Please evaluate my profile:

10th : 87.86%, 12th : 88%
TOEFL:100 (26 Spk, 27 Writing)
GRE: 1240 (will give it again and look to score 1350)
UG : 72.25% Mumbai Univ (Topper 80 percent) (2007-2011)
3 UG projects. (Baja SAEINDIA, Formula SAE)
German Language: Completed A1. (I am looking to complete B1 by next June)

Work exp:
1) Industrial: 8 months (TATA)
2) Research: IITB (currently working) : (4 months completed). I will complete 15 months by next July 2013.

Publications:1 International conference, 1 national conference (under review, will be done by Decemeber)

I am looking for Universities and specialization in Computational Engineering or Mechanical with major course in CFD/Engines.

I have found out few universities in Germany and US according to my profile. Will be giving GRE again to improve on my score which I think might be the weak link right now.

GERMANY

1) TU Braunschweig (Computational Engineering)
2) Duisburg Essen (Computational Mechanics)
3) TU Munich (Computational Mechanics) (Requires a Good GATE score)
4) TU Darmstadt
5) Erlangen Nuremberg
6) Ruhr Bochum
7) Esslingen University of Applied Science (DDM)

USA:

8) University of California -Irvine
9) Wisconsin Madison
10) Univerisity of California - San Diego
11) Penn State or Purdue
12) Georgia Tech
13) Univeristy of Florida

Please evaluate my chances. I might just add or subtract from this list. Also please rate the universities. I dont have much idea about them to be very honest. Please suggest other univerisities for Mechanical Engineering.

Esslingen is V Ambi and TUM ambi Rest you stand a good chance. Tag seniors only then you would get replies. They wont have time to go through random posts.

Well i don't know much about the US universities. I never considered them because of the cost and also Masters in Germany is my ambition Very Happy
But only thing i heard is it is very difficult to find a Job there after masters. That doesn't mean you would find one in Germany. Germany doesn't cost much so you can always afford to come back here and repay in a year or 2.

Off edulix this semester!! Do not tag me, it is no good.

As Hemanth.jan said you have really good chance in other than TUM and Esslingen.

Regarding US universities need good GRE hope you will get 1300+ in the 2 attempt
University of California -Irvine -mod
Wisconsin Madison - ambi (A prof needs to accept u as research student for getting admits)
Univerisity of California - San Diego - mod
Penn State or Purdue- ambi
Georgia Tech - ambi
Univeristy of Florida - safe

Good luck !!!

Thanks gowthamtce for replying. I looked up at your profile and you are heading to KTH sweden. That's cool. What are the chances of getting ERASMUS scholarship for TRUST program in KTH Royal. Any idea?

Thanks again.

Erasmus scholarships are really competitive and they have high preference to ppl with good CGPA. Students with CGPA around 9 pointer and decent profile will get through.

It is very difficult to score those grades from Mumbai University. The topper of my class has 81% and he in fact is the topper of Mumbai Univeristy. Anna University and others from south have in general vey high CGPA. Almost half of their class is above 9 pointer.

Yeah I know that, Thats the reason plenty of students in european universities are from south part.
Even In KTH appox 1/5 of the total Indian strength is from from North, This may be weird but its true Sad
Still give a try
