I got admit from University of Hamburg, Intelligent adaptive systems. Can someone let me know the reputation and scope of University and course?

I am interested in Intelligent systems and Robotics field and have PhD plans as well. Intelligent systems is also offered in University of Bielefeld. Is Bielefeld better than Hamburg?

Please give your inputs.

Well, if you really want a comparison go to Die Zeit webpage and search for rankings. You will find a fair comparison on metrics such as funding, number of international students, laboratory facilities, etc. But don't expect this to be conclusive. This is because a lot of times certain faculties do most of their research in another (and usually nearby) research institute like Max-Planck or Fraunhofer. So take these rankings with a pinch of salt.

If you ask me, I would say look at the program structure and the research going on in the university. Look at the projects it does in collaboration with other research institutes/industries. It is quite a big task but here is a starting point (for NRW).

http://www.wissenschaft.nrw.de/forschung/

You get huge advantages as a student in Germany. And both NRW and Hamburg have the added language factor when compared to places in East like Magdeburg or Berlin. Knowledge of German will still be important, though. If you have PhD plans, then it may be possible to continue in the same university. Alternatively, you can also switch to some other university in Germany easily if you performed well.

Isotope I don't think Bielefeld is that good, it's like it's loaded with many courses which seem unrelated to Intelligent systems, I'm actually not sure about that.

I worked in ROS(Robot Operating System) a few months ago and Freiberg seems to be very good in Intelligent Systems and Robotics, because they have done some really good modules in robotics especially the ones related to Computer Vision, which I'm interested in and also planning, even Darmstadt is good, they have this robotic football team called Darmstadt Dribblers. I'm not really sure of Hamburg, I've seen that both Darmstadt and Freiburg have ROS repositories for SLAM(Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) and Vision based packages. And ROS is one of the most happening research in the world of robotics, with the new RoboEarth Cloud Engine where all the heavy computing is done in cloud. Now you can see where it is all going. I know it is highly discouraging to tell you that TU HH isn't great, but that's the fact, maybe I'm looking at it in a uni-dimensional way. My advice is to mail the professor about the researches going on and the research institutes associated with Hamburg.

And I think Japan and USA are leading in Intelligent Systems based research. If you want to go for robotics and intelligent system which involves planning, localization etc then I'd totally recommend you Carnegie Mellon, it's the best in the world. They do all kind of research involved in robotics.

anuragm and das_german thak you very much for your valuable responses.

das_german you werent discouraging at all. My acads are 70% and GRE is 308. I am pretty sure I cant make it to the bests like Carnegie Mellon. I think Hamburg might be a good place to start and pursue Doctoral in best Unis later on.

One thing I have learnt from entire Edulix and Internet is, there are no best universities in Germany and it all depends on how well we perform. But am gonna mail professors and take their input too.

Thank you again guys..

Isotope Well, since you are in CS, and I assume that you can code really well. I highly encourage you to do some work on ROS and try getting an internship at Willowgarage, it's an awesome place, it will build you up to a better position especially in research in robotics/AI/ISY. Then I guess you can do your PhD at CMU, Recently found this video on CMU PhD student, it should be inspiring to you by the level of robotics these people do.
