I believe its good to have a list of the visa extension policy of each country post masters. Something like this should be readily available in one thread.

So, I ll start with Belgium. Here there is no automatic visa extension policy.

billa, Morphine : Also, please tag others who are in other countries. The Black Swan: Can you tag other European students. I am sure you know plenty.

PS: I will compile this thread and sticky it or something once there is enough info.

Tag me to get a response.

In Sweden it is not possible to extend visa after your study period.
Denmark allows people to apply danish visa if a student completes masters in any of EU country for 2 years.
Netherlands and Germany offers a visa extension of 1 year
Finland offers for 6 months.

You can get 6 months extension in Finland for searching jobs after completing the studies.

I guess sometimes the past just catches up with you, whether you want it to or not.

Seniors, I have one question pertaining to visa extension, which is

This visa extension period is for the student to be able to find jobs after their study period right? So once the student has a job, what happens to the visa status then?
If somebody can elaborate on this then I ll be glad. Smile

Rogue Once you get the job which fulfills the minimum income/other requirements, you can apply for the work permit.

I guess sometimes the past just catches up with you, whether you want it to or not.

For France it is 6 months..

Side by side in silence. Without a single word...
It's the loudest sound. It's the loudest sound...
It's the loudest sound I ever heard...

I believe Germany allows for max 18 months officially however how much they actually give depends on your finances as well.

UTAustin | PSU(IST) | TAMU | RPI(IT&WS) | SUNY SB |SUNY B | UFL

Note: I can only answer general queries on applications or maybe visa rules/queries about the courses I applied to. I am no good at Profile Evals.

The period is 18 months for Germany and the finances are not usually asked for (depends on the city as well). But you have to show proof that you are applying for jobs.

I can only comment on Denmark and Netherlands as I attend univs in these two countries.

Denmark : The Visa (or resident permit as it is called) is already given until December for Fall entry, i.e the permit is valid for an extended 6 months even after your period of study. This is given initially and after this period, you can apply for an extension upto 1 year without any fees to search for job.

Netherlands: You're given visa for an year when you start you studies. You need to extend it after an year until end of your second year by paying extra fees (about 150 Euros). After completion of your masters, you can extend it for 6 months again by paying extra fees to search for jobs.
