Does anyone know? Is it possible to get a job there as a foreigner? How about staying there permanently after a MSc?

You are referring to MSc in generic terms, could you be specific MSc in which stream of engineering/technology?

The job opportunities in Germany are quite good for graduates of Mechanical, Renewable Energy and Computer Science. There is still not a big enough pool of graduates to make competition tough. Most people studying these disciplines end up with jobs within 4-6 months of graduating. I've even got a friend studying Computer Science related major in Magdeburg. He has completed his coursework and is also nearing the end of his second internship - all in a matter of two years. There is a very good chance he will be working with one of the two places after graduating. Obviously, not all people end up like him but then this is just and example of what hard work can get you. People studying Computational Engineering, however, have a different story to tell altogether. But then your question was about CS.

In answering this question, I do not believe I have added anything new that you could not have found here on Edulix. The funny thing is that all this information will probably not even hold true 2-3 years down the line when you will graduate. But a lot of people are still going to base their decision to study in Germany on the current scenario. Therefore, search before you ask. And do not tag people unless you search.

Yeah, I too would like to know the story about CE grads.

This is the best piece of advice I've seen in a long time. Personally, I'm not going to Germany expecting someone to give me a job. But the markets could go kaput anytime, which equals layoffs and difficult job market.

Well, I've got a couple of acquaintances who are CE graduates. They have been having a hard time getting a job. They do get plenty of interview calls, and the impression I get from our conversation is that you need to show an above-average skill-set. This includes being able to think on your feet (in a technical sense). However, I still see no reason to get disheartened. If I were in your place and targeting a CE program, I would concentrate on getting good grades and projects during the course of the program.

Hoverer Whatever course you take, however international it is, you should know German. It doesn't matter if your job is in English, it is always better to know German, because you will mostly be having German clients. This can solely determine your prospects for your job.

BTW, Production/Industrial Engineering are really required in Germany, due to the ageing population of Engineers. But, you will be working with people with technical skills but no degree, they just go through something similar to Polytechnic as in India and they only speak German, you need to know German in order to survive as an Engineer.

Hoverer I think it all depends on you. You can go from anywhere to anywhere, as there is no fixed point. I can never say what you can be in 2 years or 5 years or 10 years as it all depends on your efforts.

GETHU can say about the reputation of Duisburg Essen.

According to me it's all the same wherever you go in Germany, it doesn't matter. All that matters is how you work and spend your time on things.

Germany is already cheap, all you can do is find a cheap place like I'm in right now, Jena is a small Eastern Germany city which makes it cheap to live. If you have financial problems.
