Blocked Account

Hi,

Is there any other way of opening a blocked account for Germany apart from though getting the document attested in German Embassy and then sending those to Germany by post?

Like i have heard that we can go directly to a Deutsche Bank in India and ask them to open a blocked account by first opening a savings account in India?

Anybody went for this option? And what are pros/cons for both options. If anyone help me out in this. Thanks.

Refer to the starting portion of the thread by SridharAshokk: http://www.edulix.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=134689

The local DB banks will first tell you to deposit around 1 L rupees ( or might be a little less depending upon your negotiation skills).

As Sridhar has already said
Quote:Don't go with this option when you have sufficient amounts of time. It will be a waste of money which can be used well for other purposes.
. You still have lots of time if you start the blocked account process now. Its advisable not to go to local DB branch unless you are getting your blocked account done at the very last moment.

sunny55 the pros of opening a savings account in local Deutsche Bank:

1. The bank officials totally assist you for opening the blocked account, like they come at your place to collect the documents and then they mail it to Germany.

2. The local account can be in joint name with one of your parents. This is useful in case you run out of the monthly allocated blocked account funds in case of an emergency. In this case you may withdraw the money from the local account at Germany without any charges and your parent may refill it to meet the minimum balance.

Yup! I totally agree with vickeykamat. I did the same - opened a joint account and then they did all the formalities. Received blocked account opening mail somewhere after 2 weeks. I think it's quite easy this way.

If you have around 1lakh extra, then you can open a local DB account and save the efforts. But, since there is enough time, it is better to always open DB account directly by attesting and sending the documents to Germany. That one lakh can be invested somewhere else. Depends on you.

Hi,

I have a query on a similar line. Just the thing is, I live in Bhopal and we do not have a local Duetsche Bank. But, we do have a Kotak Mahindra Bank branch nearby.

So my query is, will it be preferable to open my Blocked Account at the Kotak branch. What issues might I face if I use their service, like delay in getting blocked account transferred once I am in Germany, etc.

If someone has used this service before, do comment.

P.S. Travelling to Mumbai takes almost 16 hours one way via train. With no immediate relatives/known people there, my parents are a bit iffy about going there just for the Attestation thing.

ishansaxena45 I have no experience with kotak mahindra but when consulate has it on its website, I don't think there will be any problems. Only thing is delay in transfer or whether they will transfer the whole amount or not.

Even if you open an account at DB, once you arrive here and activate your account, they take around a month to send you debit card and activate services, but open an account after reaching here, lets say in Sparkasse, you receive everything within a week and then kotak can transfer in that account.

So just confirm with Kotak bank how they will transfer the money and what details would they require later on.

UPDATE:
Just confirmed with a guy who has opened it at Kotak mahindra and he said there are no delays in transferring amount. Once you open an account in Germany, send the kotak people the details and within 2-3 days they transfer the whole amount.

Even I have no experience with Kotak Mahindra. Just ask them the exact procedure they will follow. And actually it is a good idea to open an account here in Sparkasse bank rather than Deutsche Bank. Because Deutsche Bank has very less number of ATMs in most of the cities. So it is really inconvenient. Sparkasse has ATMs in many places.

Hi,

Need some advice!
I've got an admit in the EPE program at RWTH Aachen.

Considering that I need to fly by Mid-August, would it be better to open a blocked account in Local DB/Kotak Mahindra instead of sending them to Germany?

Is it quicker?
